Jean Macdonald

DIRECTOR Of BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Jean MacDonald is a communication and business strategist, corporate sales trainer, speaker, and author who works with companies and individuals nationwide. At Intrepid Build she leads business development, bringing strategic thinking, communication, and problem solving to the work.

She came to construction through insurance. Jean owned a large commercial insurance agency focused on the construction, manufacturing, and restaurant industries, and went beyond writing insurance to earn her risk management certification. She is a Distinguished Toastmaster and holds National Speaker Certification, and she was recognized as a 2025 Woman of Achievement by Chatham Magazine and named Distinguished Business Person of the Year by the Chatham County Chamber of Commerce in 2024.

A day in Jean's role is built on meeting people. She works through networking and through active involvement in the community, including the Chatham County Chamber of Commerce, Professional Women of Chatham and Orange County, Toastmasters, Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women, and the Sanford Area Growth Alliance. The meetings are half of it. The follow up is the other half.

Her contribution at Intrepid runs in two directions. She has brought new project managers into the operation and meets with subcontractors to assist with projects, and she is building the outside relationships she expects to bring business to the company. One project that stays with her involved coordinating marketing and bonding on a very tight schedule to get a bid in on a large job. Watching the team problem solve in real time and support one another through it was a reminder of how much collaboration is worth in this business. Where she leans on her colleagues is on technical depth, relying on the project managers, field teams, and trade partners who bring the craftsmanship to every project.

What Jean wants the industry to change is when builders get invited into the room. Construction needs stronger collaboration, respect for the skilled trades, and builders involved earlier in the design process, because when construction professionals are included early, projects run more efficiently, budgets are more realistic, and everyone from the architect to the electrician delivers a better outcome for the client. Being part of Intrepid, as she puts it, means building more than projects. It means building relationships, in a company that values integrity, craftsmanship, and respect for the people who bring a project to life. What she wants to keep raising is the bar on communication and transparency, so that a project is not only successful structurally but a positive experience for everyone involved in it.
